House of Roots and Bones: BMCB Practicum Courses
BMCB BCH 711 — How Big Mama Reads Scripture
This practicum teaches the department’s complete method for reading Scripture as text, prayer, testimony, instruction, spiritual authority, and living Word. Students learn to ask what a specific Biblical passage meant, what action it teaches, and what the passage actually claims. Historical context is considered before a passage is applied to Hoodoo practice.
BMCB BCH 712 — Scripture as Rootwork
This course examines the many ways Scripture enters Black American Hoodoo beyond simply reciting verses as conditions. Students study Biblical material for protection, prosperity, spiritual warfare, guidance, and petition. Scripture written on petitions, and verses placed with materials, are examined. The course teaches students to work Scripture because they understand its authority and meaning.
BMCB BCH 713 — Choosing Scripture by Condition
This course trains students to select Scripture only after the spiritual condition has been identified. Students compare passages for enemies, protection, healing, grief, justice, provision, reconciliation, and more. Case exercises require students to defend Scripture selection from the text itself.
BMCB BCH 714 — Praying Scripture Over Roots
This course teaches students to select and pray Scripture over roots according to both the Biblical text and the traditional purpose of the material. Students work with strengthening, protection, luck, mastery, court, drawing, and other root conditions. Prayer is constructed from the actual condition and students explain why the root and Scripture belong together.
BMCB BCH 715 — Praying Scripture Over Candles and Lamps
This course teaches Biblical prayer over candles, lamps, and spiritual lights. Students select Scripture for protection, justice, healing, remembrance, provision, or other diagnosed purposes. Dressing, lighting, spoken prayer, maintenance, observation, and completion are integrated into one sequence.
BMCB BCH 716 — Praying Scripture Over Baths and Washes
This course integrates Scripture with personal baths, house washes, cleansing water, protection washes, and restorative treatments. Students study Biblical language of washing, purification, crossing, healing, and renewal. They practice selecting prayers appropriate to what is being removed and what should replace it afterward.
BMCB BCH 717 — Praying Scripture Over Mojo Hands
This course teaches students to integrate Biblical prayer into construction and maintenance of mojo hands. Scripture is selected according to the hand’s actual purpose and traditional function of its contents. Students pray during preparation, assembly, tying, dressing, and maintenance where appropriate.

The course gives Christian Hoodoo practitioners a thoughtful Biblical vocabulary for tending family memory.
BMCB BCH 719 — Scripture for Healing

Case exercises, Psalms, and pastoral texts are compared and students learn to pray alongside medical care.
BMCB BCH 720 — Scripture for Protection
This course examines Biblical protection language for people, homes, families, travelers, workers, children, and businesses. The course teaches that Biblical protection establishes a condition in which a person can stand.
BMCB BCH 721 — Scripture for Uncrossing
This course examines Scripture used when removing crossed, burdened, contaminated, or oppressive conditions. Students study Biblical language of cleansing, deliverance, release, refuge, and restoration and learn to incorporate it into baths, washes, candles, and other uncrossing methods. The course emphasizes proper diagnosis so cleansing texts are used with discernment and purpose.
BMCB BCH 722 — Scripture for Justice
This course examines Scripture concerning justice, oppression, false witnesses, corrupt authority, vindication, and the protection of vulnerable people. Case exercises require students to identify what a just outcome looks like before selecting Scripture.

This course specializes in Scripture for legal proceedings, authorities, testimony, favor, and vindication. BMCB BCH 725 — Scripture for Reversal
This course examines Biblical narratives and prayers where traps fail, accusations collapse, and intended harm returns upon its source. The course teaches reversal as the turning of an established condition with clarity, evidence, and proper jurisdiction.
