House of Roots and Bones: BMCB General Epistles
BMCB BCH 601 — Hebrews: Priesthood, Blood, Covenant & the Ancestors of Faith
This course examines priesthood, sacrifice, blood, covenant, sanctuary, faith, endurance, and the remembered dead who form the book’s great cloud of witnesses. Students study Hebrews’ use of earlier Biblical material so sacrificial imagery is understood within its theological context. The course deepens students’ understanding of blood, covenant, memory, and spiritual inheritance.
BMCB BCH 602 — James: Faith That Won’t Work Ain’t Much Faith
This course examines practical faith through speech, work, favoritism, anger, wisdom, poverty, wealth, prayer, healing, patience, and action. Students study James as a Biblical challenge to spirituality that exists only in words. The course teaches that if your faith never changes what your hands do, something is missing.
BMCB BCH 603 — 1 Peter: Surviving Trouble Without Losing Yourself
This course examines suffering, identity, endurance, community, hope, conduct, and survival under pressure. Students study how people preserve spiritual identity when the circumstances around them are hostile. The course provides a framework for helping people survive trouble without allowing trouble to redefine who they are.
BMCB BCH 604 — 2 Peter: False Teachers and Spiritual Discernment
This course examines false teaching, exploitation, corruption, spiritual claims, judgment, knowledge, and discernment. Students compare Biblical warnings about deceptive teachers with modern spiritual manipulation and practice evaluating teachers by conduct, claims, evidence, and the effects of their leadership. The course prepares students to recognize wolves without training them to call everybody they dislike a wolf.
BMCB BCH 605 — 1 John: Test the Spirits
This course develops Biblical discernment around spirits, claims, teachers, experiences, fear, truth, and spiritual confidence. Students examine the command to test spiritual claims rather than accept them merely because they feel powerful or supernatural. The course teaches the Seminary that a mature spiritual worker can believe deeply in the unseen while still testing what comes through the door.
BMCB BCH 606 — 2 John: Don’t Invite Everything Into Your House
This course examines hospitality, boundaries, teaching, household access, and the responsibility involved in deciding what is welcomed into one’s space. Students consider physical, relational, intellectual, and spiritual forms of access. The course teaches that hospitality does not require unlimited access and spiritual openness does not require the absence of boundaries.
BMCB BCH 607 — 3 John: Hospitality, Reputation & Community
This course examines hospitality, leadership conflict, reputation, testimony, generosity, and the treatment of people moving through a spiritual community. Students compare healthy hospitality with controlling leadership and exclusion. The course teaches that how a House treats people eventually becomes part of what the House is known for.
BMCB BCH 608 — Jude: Contend for What Was Handed Down
This course examines preservation, corruption, false authority, inherited teaching, community defense, and the responsibility to protect what has been entrusted to a people. Students apply Jude’s language of contending to cultural preservation without turning every disagreement into warfare. The course teaches how to defend Black American Hoodoo from historical erasure, exploitation, and false origin stories while remaining committed to evidence.
