Big Mama's Conjure Bible: The Book of Genesis

The Torah / The Five Books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy)
Primary Use: Cosmology, Liberation Magic, Law-Based Conjure, Ancestral Contracts, Binding and Loosing.
 
These books form the foundation of biblical conjure work. Genesis opens the spiritual imagination of the practitioner with stories of creation, elemental formation, ancestral blessing, bloodline covenants, and dream interpretation. Abraham’s dealings with God are foundational for understanding spiritual contracts. The tale of Jacob and Esau is one of inheritance conjure. Joseph’s rise through dreamwork establishes the biblical legitimacy of vision as divination.
 
Exodus is central to every Black conjure tradition. It is the narrative of enslavement and liberation. Moses, the conjure prophet, parts water, turns staffs into snakes, manipulates nature, calls down plagues, and challenges the empire, acts that parallel Hoodoo works of justified retaliation, weather conjure, and freedom spells. The burning bush is a spiritual visitation. The Passover ritual is an early blood protection working.
 
Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy provide the legal and ritual codes, some of which Hoodoo adapts symbolically, not literally. The emphasis on cleanliness, quarantine, scapegoats, incense burning, oil anointing, salt usage, and high-priest attire forms the basis for Hoodoo’s ritual etiquette. The priestly duties in Leviticus mirror the work of the rootworker: mediator between spirit and people, keeper of laws both earthly and divine.
